The Offshore 48 Pilothouse possesses a solid hand-laminated fiberglass hull with epoxy barrier coat; its design features a generous beam and finely V-ed and a deep forefoot that gradually tapers to a 12-degree deadrise at the transom.
This design produces a hull that is quick to get on plane and knives cleanly through waves and chop throughout the speed range. The craft's standard exterior includes two-tone, molded non-skid decks as well as window frames, doors and hatches made of gelcoated fiberglass so they can't corrode like aluminum or rot like wood.
Moreover, the cockpit contains a freshwater shower in a molded FRP cabinet, and the boat deck allows internal drainage to the waterline, keeping the lower decks free of runoff. Below deck, the 48 Offshore features quality hand-rubbed, satin finish Burmese teak cabinetry, and teak and holly sole throughout. The salon, staterooms, heads, and galley are built with the attention to detail that Offshore Yachts has been known for since 1948.
There are two staterooms and two heads all accessed down a forward stairway to the starboard side of the pilothouse. The master stateroom is amidship with a walk-around queen berth to the portside with a padded headboard and built in nightstands to either side with wall mounted reading lights. Above on the portside are two opening rectangular portholes which provide natural lighting or there are drapes for coverage when privacy is preferred.
The forward side of the stateroom has a two-door hanging locker with eight large drawers and a high counter shelf above where there is a decorative lamp and a wall mounted flat panel Samsung TV. To the starboard side, behind the open cabin door is a cabinet which houses a Splendide combo washer/dryer. Overhead there are dome lighting fixtures controlled by a dimmer switch and there is bound edge carpeting over the teak and holly sole.
On the starboard side, just aft of the washer/dryer is the private master head. Freshwater VacuFlush head and a full length Hi-Macs solid surface, black granite vanity top with an undermounted oval porcelain sink and a mirrored medicine cabinet. The shower is a modest bathtub with handheld shower wand. The head is air-conditioned or there are two opening rectangular portholes for ventilation and natural light.
The forward stateroom has a centerline queen berth with upper cove cabinets to either side and reading lights above the headboard. A small TV is to the portside and counter-top shelves are on both sides. There are two rectangular opening portlights treated with small drapes and an overhead hatch with screen panel which allow the cabin natural lighting. Aft to the starboard side there is a hanging locker. Both staterooms have teak and holly soles fitted with bound edge carpeting. The woodwork is both warm and beautiful.
The guest head is just aft of the forward guest stateroom with door across from the stairway, so it doubles as the day head. Well-finished matching to the master head it also has a separate shower stall.
Entering from the cockpit, the salon has an L-shaped lounge to port and a smaller settee on the starboard side with a high-gloss teak drop leaf Hi-Lo table. Overhead pin lights have teak trim rings and are on dimmer control (as is most of the lighting throughout the boat). The settees are covered in Ultraleather material with matching valance panels above. The large deckhouse windows which slide open if desired, have snap-on Textilene mesh privacy covers on the outside and have Oceanair roll-up blinds on the inside. TV is in the aft starboard corner and port aft corner is a built-in end table cabinet. Forward to starboard is a countertop with decorative table lamp and across to portside is the Galley.
The Pilothouse has a center helm with a Captain's chair and slide-opening wing doors to either side. Six-spoke teak helm wheel and above helm are three brass Weems & Plath - barometer, temperature, and clock. Aft is a raised Ultraleather settee with teak hi-gloss teak table. Overhead opening hatches above the settee and the helm seat (with screen). To starboard are steps with teak railing up to flybridge.
There are two Captain's chairs by the forward helm console and just behind to the portside is an L-shaped settee with a table. To the starboard side is a console with drink refrigerator, sink, and storage. Classy blue and white striped cushions and the fresh white painted surroundings and tabletop show beautifully. There is a fiberglass radar arch and white powder coated aluminum framework extends forward from it with a fresh laced Stamoid top. The three sided enclosure is edged in blue canvas with side U-zips and forward EZ2CY panels (new 2021). Just behind the settee are chocks with the RIB tender and electric davit. On the aft edge of the bridge is a newer emergency cannister liferaft. There are two accesses to the bridge, steps up from the pilothouse and aft there is a ladder down to the aft deck.
INDIGO has been treated to a high-quality complete painting which was completed over the course of two seasons while stored in Islamorada, FL. During 2023-2024 the deckhouse was painted Cloud White. Painters removed and re-bedded all windows, re-caulked/sealed all seams, all portholes and hatches were replaced. Deckhouse brow is non-skid finished for reduced glare and safety. In 2025 the hull was painted Flag Blue, waterline to rub rail. The stainless-steel strike plate of the railing was replaced with new solid material. Previously in 2020 the bottom was stripped and barrier coated. There is a white boot stripe with a red pin accent stripe and black bottom paint.
INDIGO is a very comfortable and well-maintained vessel which has benefited from a history of good ownership and continual updating. Virtually every system on the boat has been upgraded, replaced, or at minimum thoroughly serviced within the past 15 years. This current ownership has taken a great boat to another level cosmetically through a very complete paint process.
