TUMBLEWEED is a well-appointed stabilized Grand Banks 42 Classic that presents beautifully throughout, with the traditional teak and quality finishes the marque is known for. She boards easily from either port or starboard boarding gates onto full walk-around teak decks.
Exterior & Flybridge -The elevated sun deck aft is equipped with dinghy chocks, a rail-mounted grill, and a boom with electric winch. Four steps lead up to the flybridge, where the top deck features a built-in teak table with four folding teak chairs and two additional folding cocktail tables. Molded bench seating is fitted both port and starboard, and extra-wide molded helm bench is starboard with separate mate's bench to port. The flybridge has a bimini with matching canvas helm cover in blue. The aft of the vessel features an opening gate with transom-mounted steps to teak swim platform with a collapsing swim ladder — a traditional and practical aft access arrangement well suited to the Grand Banks design.
Pilothouse / Helm Boarding through the starboard cabin door, the helm station features a captain's bench seat with folding footrest. The helm is well-equipped with a bow thruster, autopilot, and a multifunction display. Three-panel windshield with sunbrella screens and adjustable blinds throughout provide excellent visibility and light control.
Galley The L-shaped galley is positioned to port and is well-equipped for extended cruising. Appliances include a refrigerator with a drop-in freezer, a three-burner Force 10 electric stove, and a GE convection microwave with air fryer. The dual stainless-steel sink includes a retractable spray wand. A separate drinking water system with Seagull filtration is fitted alongside attractive corian countertops. Storage is abundant with cabinetry above the galley, a small pantry above the freezer, storage beneath the microwave, and an additional locker just forward of the range.
Salon The salon is positioned aft of the helm and is bright and comfortable. It features a large L-shaped settee to starboard with a removable folding leaves table. A bulkhead-mounted brass clock and barometer add a classic touch. A separate reclining chair is appointed to port. A built-in entertainment console houses a Bose stereo and Alpine radio with CD changer. A built-in bar with glassware storage is neatly tucked between the helm bench and settee. The helm bench offers three drawers and compartment storage on both the port and starboard sides.
Primary Stateroom Down four steps aft from the salon, the aft stateroom is spacious and well appointed. A double berth is positioned to starboard. To port, a large L-shaped built-in desk offers nine drawers and built-in bookshelves. All sliding opening windows have custom Norman blinds and contain screens. A large hanging locker is fitted forward, with an additional smaller hanging locker to port. The en suite head to port features a Vacu-flush toilet, vanity with sink, two lockers, vanity storage, and two drawers. A separate stall shower to starboard includes a storage locker, towel rack, shower curtain, and an opening screened window. Additional built-in storage and a bench vanity with bookshelf is fitted starboard of the berth. Access to the aftdeck is through an opening hatch with split doors and a built-in screen. Flooring throughout is parquet teak sole.
Forward Accommodations The forward companionway leads down four steps to the guest stateroom. To port is a storage locker and a hanging locker. To starboard is a wet head with a Vacu-flush toilet, sink, built-in storage, a large mirror, and a custom Norman blind on an opening screened window. The forward stateroom is private and comfortable, with engine room access beneath the steps. It features a wide V-berth, two opening screened windows, and an opening overhead hatch with screen.
Exterior Details Exterior brightwork includes varnished teak rails with stainless steel stanchions. The bow features a separate pulpit with stainless steel rails and dual anchor rollers. The superstructure has teak accents throughout. The foredeck offers a built-in storage bench with fender racks and stainless-steel handholds. The mast is equipped with a tabernacle, allowing the air clearance to be lowered from 22.5ft to only 13ft.
The Grand Banks 42 Classic is one of the most successful and beloved trawler designs ever produced, and Tumbleweed — hull #1,349 of just 1,560 built — is among the rarest examples you will find. What sets her apart from the crowd is her factory-installed Wesmar hydraulic stabilizer package, an uncommon option on the 42 that transforms the already exceptional hull into a genuinely comfortable passage-maker. Loop-capable, bridge-friendly, and equally at home on the Chesapeake or the open coast, it’s easy to understand why the Grand Banks 42 has earned such a devoted following over the decades. TUMBLEWEED is easily seen resting in the tide-free, freshwater, covered sheds at Atlantic Yacht Basin, and ready for her next chapter.
