Description
The Ericson 38-200 is one of those vessels that will always turn up in far flung, not easily reached, cruising grounds. They enjoy a reputation for toughness and yet have an uncanny turn of speed, especially for a cruising boat designed for the 80's. None of these attributes come as a surprise to their owners, who tend to cherish these fine boats for many years and infrequently come on the market.
This particular one, ARETE, encountered the typical Ericson owner, full of enthusiasm and knowledge, not to only keep her in excellent shape, but progressively go through her older systems and refit them as needed, while simultaneously refreshing the interior.
ARETE, is the winged keel version of this boat, which allows her to get into most areas boats of her size would struggle to do. Additionally, with the unique internal tri axial grid structure these boats where built with, make this boat stiff enough to carry ample canvas and withstand a beating when sailing in tough weather.
ARETE is currently afloat for a short while longer, prior to being hauled for winter storage. Kindly contact the broker for further information and to schedule a viewing.

Interior
The Ericson 38-200 has a typical layout for this generation of yachts, but has some subtle changes over the earlier 38.
Forward one will find a spacious double V berth, with it's own privacy door and is arranged with a surprising amount of storage on both sides of the cabin and in central drawers beneath the berth.
There is another private cabin in the port quarter, with slightly less volume but a slightly wider double bunk. Midships, one will find a spacious salon with U shaped seating to port and fore/aft seating to s'brd, both of which may be used as bunks. 6 persons may easily be accommodated for short periods.
The galley lies to port, just forward of the companion way. This has more than adequate work top space, double drain sink, gas stove with oven and a deep ice box type refrigerator.
Opposite the galley, to st'brd is the navigation space, with a good sized chart table, switches and circuit breakers which are easily reached, and sufficient storage in the way of drawers and pigeon holes for charts.
Aft of the chart table, one will find the head, with a separate enclosed shower. Of note, the head is electrically operated and is fresh water supplied from the more than adequate tankage.
Overall, the interior shows ample volume and lends itself for comfortable lounging when moored and on passage. The ample natural light and air, entering through the numerous opening hatches and portlights will easily keep at bay any feeling of being cooped up in a boat.
It is also refreshing to see attention being paid to the natural teak finish inside which shows little wear for it's age.
