“Hi! My name is Jim Rich from Marco Island, Florida. As the owner of 8 boats over the past 13 years, I offered to write this letter to help fellow boaters decide whether or not to use a broker when purchasing a boat. Like many of you, I was always skeptical of boat brokers much like used car salesmen, and for that reason either seemed to pay too much for new boats or negotiated the best I could for used. Three years ago that all changed. When trading a 3 year old 53′ Navigator for a 58′ Symbol pilot house, I met Andy Kniffin, head salesman for Symbol Yachts in Ft Lauderdale. This was the first time I had ever traded a boat vs selling it outright, and Andy made sure the timing was such that our sales taxes were minimized and the new boat was delivered to us in perfect condition.
